India Part 14 - INDIA THE CONFUSED COUNTRY

India is one of planet’s most multi-dimensional countries, and even the most seasoned travellers may have problem taking it down when they step into this alien territory. Be it the weather, the way their system works or the attitude of the Indians, it seems that everyone, eveything just want to bring you to your knees.

Although the media can’t stop hyping on India as the up and coming country, it can’t be any further than the truth; until you been to this country, you know it won’t happen any time soon. Perhaps it will, given another 143 years.

The poverty is imminent everywhere and it can be very intimating.

Beggars will stick to you if your skin is not black.



Anywhere can be home if you have no home.

And of course, when there are people in need of help, there must be someone to help. After living in this extraordinary country for 5 months, the one has finally helped enough people to earn the reputation of Philanthropist Tan!

Philanthropist Tan never turns down any person in need of help, even if the person is ugly.




Meet Traveller Chan, who is the latest benefiter of Philanthropist Tan’s kindness.

No, the picture is not photochopped at all; Traveller Chan’s face has a certified roughness of Grade 2 sandpaper. Having travelled to Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan for backpacking trips, Traveller Chan is a well known rough face tough guy among his friends. But not anymore.


Since touching down in Delhi 2 weeks ago, Traveller Chan has been suffering from the scorching heat of the 45 Degree Celsius weather. He has to walk around with his bright red umbrella and there is nothing much he could do. The final straw came after he has touched the Taj Mahal, when the marble is radiating far more heat than he could endure.




Soon after that, Traveller Chan went straight back to his shared dormitory. He knew he has to take off all his clothes before he suffers a heat stroke. He drifted in and out of conscious for about 72hours, seeing blurred images of fellow backpackers going in and out. He is not sure what happened during that period of time, but he sure woke up with a sore butt.

His budget wouldn’t allow him to sleep in a aircon room at all, yet he knew he will die if he continues in this extreme weather of India. The heat flux are trapped within the holes of his face and to keep matter worst, rough skin is a poor insulator and generate thermal entropy at a faster rate than his body can dissipate.

He knew he only had one last shot, and if it fails he will die in the Land of the Curry. So, Traveller Chan took a 18hours train ride to Pune to find Philanthropist Tan. When Philanthropist Tan saw traveller Chan standing by his door hallucinating, he already knew what India has done to this rough young man.

Wasting no time, Philanthropist Tan immediately usher him into his room and turn on the aircon to full throttle.

After freeloading recuperating in his house for 4 days, Philanthropist Tan is finally able to chase see Traveller Chan off for his subsequent journey.
